How large are the typical residential units per MOHCD

The Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) helps residents access affordable housing and essential services to create thriving communities. It works to align the city’s housing policies, offer funding for building, renovating, and buying affordable homes in San Francisco, and improve the social, physical, and economic foundations of low-income neighborhoods and communities that need support.

MOHCD's Role in Affordable Housing and Community Development

The Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) operates through two divisions: Housing and Community Development. The Housing Division manages financing programs for affordable housing development, first-time homebuyer support, and low-income housing rehabilitation while ensuring long-term affordability and maintenance. The Community Development Division focuses on improving low-income neighborhoods' social and economic infrastructure, administering federal programs, and overseeing the city's $1.5 billion Housing Trust Fund for affordable housing over the next 30 years.

The Mayor of Housing and Community Development issues standards for each below-market-rate (BMR) unit size:

Studio = 250 sqft

1Bedroom = 500 sqft

2 Bedroom = 800 sqft

3 Bedroom = 1,000 sqft

4 Bedroom = 1,250 sqft

Interior Ceiling Height = 8'-6"

Bathrooms and Hallways = 8'-0"
