History 

Del Mar was incorporated as a city in 1959. Del Mar, the smallest city in San Diego County, was established to lure the rich searching for a beachside vacation location. Demographics  

It was estimated that 3,912 people (94.0 percent) were of white ethnicity, 10 were African American, eight were Native American, 118were Asian, three were Pacific Islanders, and 25 were from other races. There were 85 (2.0 percent) people of more than one ethnicity in Del Mar at the time of the census.
