History  

The Payomkawichum people were initially renamed Luiseos by Spanish missionaries who arrived in the late 1700s. The Luiseos developed large town sites and oak woods. One location in particular formed the area that is currently known as Live Oak County Park. During the Mexican time, Ysidro Alvarado was awarded Rancho Monserate by the president of Mexican California, Pio Pico, who was living in the west of Fallbrook, near where Camp Pendleton is now located.

Demographics  

There were 9,999 homes, with approximately 9.3% having children under the age of roughly 59.5% having opposite-sex married people living together, 1,140 (11.4%) having a female homeowner with no husband present, and 577 (5.8%) having a male householder with no spouse (wife) present. 528 unmarried opposite-sex partnerships (5.3percent) and 45 (0.5 percent) same-sex married women or partnerships.
