History
The Payomkawichum people were initially renamed Luiseos by Spanish missionaries who arrived in the late 1700s. The Luiseos developed large town sites and oak woods. One location in particular formed the area that is currently known as Live Oak County Park. During the Mexican time, Ysidro Alvarado was awarded Rancho Monserate by the president of Mexican California, Pio Pico, who was living in the west of Fallbrook, near where Camp Pendleton is now located.
