Between Balboa Terrace and Westwood Park at the top of small crest lies a neighborhood of mostly Spanish Mediterranean homes built by noted SF architect Fernando Nelson. North of Ocean but south of Monterey, it’s a curvy hillside of single-family homes west of Twin Peaks.
The area of fully detached single-family homes with tile roofs in the Spanish Med tradition. Ocean Avenue provides the neighborhood with a shopping corridor, and also with Muni light-rail service. Homes are a little larger than the traditional SF home.
Ocean Avenue provides excellent access to the Balboa Park BART station and I-280 as well as providing Muni light-rail service.
Between Westwood Park and Balboa Terrace, this neighborhood of single family detached tile roofed homes was developed by Fernando Nelson, who built over 4000 San Francisco homes, ranging from Victorians to Spanish Mediterranean, over the course of a nearly century-long career. "Arriving in San Francisco in 1876, he built his first home on Church Street when he was 16," historian Judith Lynch writes. Nelson intended to build homes that working-class folks could afford, so he began mass-producing dwellings in 1880. He would buy huge blocks, or in this case, 50 acres, and fill them with similar style houses, just as he did in Mount Davidson Manor.
Mount Davidson Manor is a San Francisco neighborhood. Mount Davidson Manor has a population of 1,421 people, with 48 percent men and 52 percent females, with a median age of 46. Households with children make up 30% of the population, followed by single-female families (22%), single-male families (13%), and couples (65%).
Mount Davidson Manor is conveniently located near both the interstate and public transportation routes. On the streets and on foot, residents can enjoy the suburban-feeling sanctuary that is insulated from city traffic. And if they feel the need to leave the sanctuary at any time, they can simply explore the city by day or night, returning to their house at the end of their trip.
Mt. Davidson is not only the highest geographic point (938 feet) on the world-famous San Francisco skyline (the forested peak to the left of the Bay Bridge above, and covered in snow below) and home to the Mount Davidson Cross and the Annual Easter Sunrise Service 2020, but it also provides an insider's view of the city's development, California, and the United States' westward expansion from its heart West of Twin Peaks.
Residents may walk to the chic shops, restaurants, and bars that along West Portal Avenue, the coffee shops and retail stores that line Ocean Avenue, or the various retail chains and eateries inside the Stonestown Galleria mall for everyday amenities.
Niche's quality ratings for surrounding elementary, middle, and high schools are remarkably comparable. If you have children and want them to have a consistent educational experience as they grow up, this area could be a wonderful fit.
Mount Davidson Manor residents earn a typical family income of $161,731 and a median individual income of $80,132.
